The LA Shorts International Film Festival ranks as one of the most prestigious and largest international short film festivals in the world. The festival is accredited by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. The LA Shorts International Film Festival is the longest running short film festival in Los Angeles, California and is already on its 23rd year.

Tombstone Pillow was filmed inside The Manila North Cemetery in the Philippines among the haphazard shanties, top of graves and mausoleums. Together with a generation of poor families who have been living there since the 1950s. In 2017 there is an estimated 6,000 people who are living in the area.
6,000 people live in the graveyards in the Philippines without running water or electricity. When a photographer Anton Afanasyev documented their lives he said: ” They don’t have a penny, but are still smiling”. (Fraser Scott)
Lourdes Duque Baron, plays the role of Olivia, an insanely rich and condescending woman who was married to a corrupt politician who will be forced to revisit her traumatic past in the shanties of Manila.

Kendra Sison De Mesa of MissDi Models was discovered by Dream Team Directors Daniel Lir and Bayou Bennett in the Philippines.They deemed her perfect for the role, and alongside other professional actors in the Philippines. Actor Ian Ignacio also stars in the film, he is known for starring alongside Rhian Ramos and Monsour Del Rosario in the The Trigonal: Fight for Justice (2018), Buy Bust in 2018 and Blood Hunters: Rise of The Hybrids.
Tombstone Pillow was shot by a team headed by Director of Photography Mycko David who made the Oscar entry for the Philippines last year and is being premiered at the Oscar and BAFTA qualifying.
Mycko David is a cinematographer and Director of Photography known for movies like Birdshot, Eerie and Clarita, all top-grossing films in the Philippines.
Hagay Mizrahi of Gemini Muziq is a top music producer who has already worked with notable artists like Justin Bieber, Mario, Jason Derulo, Snoop Dogg and Christina Milan. He also did a music album collaboration with Lourdes Duque Baron.
2019 LA SHORTS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES LINE-UP
The 23rd annual LA Shorts International Film Festival will showcase 307 films from July 17 – 25. Films from the United Kingdom, Austria, Denmark, Canada, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Slovenia, Japan, China, USA and Australia are included. Over 43 curated film programs are included, with 90 minute film blocks followed by a Q&A with film makers.
The Opening Night Film Program will be in the held in the 800 seat premiere auditorium at Regal Cinemas at 8:00 pm on July 17th, featuring the world premiere of ESPN’s documentary about former Pittsburgh Steeler football player Rocky Bleier. The program will feature David Arquette in The Old Man’s Hands and comedian Dane Cook for directorial debut for American Typecast.
Winners in four categories are eligible for consideration by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS®). Over the course of 23 years, the festival has presented 58 films that have gone on to receive Academy Award® nominations.
