Tombstone Pillow film reaches another milestone as it receives its 21’st nomination at the US Hollywood International Golden Film Awards 2020.
Over hundreds entrants around the world submitted their films for consideration for Golden Film Awards across the submission platforms. About 58 elite list was created.
Tombstone Pillow is a 12- minute short film that advocates for social change. A story about a heartless heiress, forced on the run, who meets a poor graveyard girl who teaches her life’s true riches.Shot in the shanties of the Manila North Cemetery where 6,000 impoverished people live.
Many people are currently living inside the Manila North Cemetery, some serve as caretakers of mausoleums, others are informal settlers. Impoverished families built shanties around the tombstones and turned mausoleums into makeshift homes due to lack of decent housing and job opportunities.
Lack of proper housing and education remains one of the biggest issues that human rights activists are tackling today. The film wants to highlight real social issues happening in the film’s location- the Manila North Cemetery with the hopes of awakening the awareness of many- so a solution can be arrived at.

Many families are so impoverished that the only remaining choice for them is to sleep beside the tombs of the dead. When Dream Team Directors, Lourdes Duque Baron and Fraser Scott has heard out the situation in the Manila North Cemetery they knew that they had to bravely set out and discover, witness and film “Tombstone Pillow”.
Other notable awards won by Tombstone Pillow include Best Short Drama at the ICP Entertainment Short Film Series, official finalist for New York City Independent Film Festival, NYCIFF Festival, ARFF Amsterdam Around Internal Film Festival, Global Short Film Award Cannes and picked as an official finalist for The Global Impact Film Festival (GIDC) in Washington D.C
Lourdes Duque Baron was nominated for Best Actress at the New York City International Film Festival.
Tombstone Pillow was also given the award for “Best Social Theme” award at The Conception Independent Film Awards, The New York Movie Awards selected the film as the winner for ” Inspirational Category”. The Global Impact Film Festival screened the film on August 8, and granted it as the film ” Special Jury Recognition”. While the Venice Film Awards chose Tombstone Pillow as ” Winner of Inspirational Category”.
Tombstone Pillow became widely successful with its film festival run. The message is strong and the impact cannot be denied. Because of this, it immediately got the attention of streaming giant Amazon films for broadcast. Amazon Prime wants to help bring ” Tombstone Pillow’s” message to a wider audience.
US Hollywood Int’l Golden Film Award (GFA)
The US Hollywood Intl Golden Film Award believes in the power of fashion art form, it bridges culture and its purpose is to illuminate the universality of human experience.
The film awards giving body was created to enhance cultural dialogue and to celebrate cinematic excellence in different languages. The US Hollywood Int’l Golden Film Awards (GFA) is a yearly community event. The festival features full length and shorts from around the world.
In the light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the GFA has decided to shift their program into a virtual format on December. 16, 2020. The award ceremony will be screening the diverse roster of features, documentaries and shorts including Tombstone Pillow, together with the panels, a Q&A session together with industry experts and creatives.
The virtual platform lends itself to the kind of robust presentations and discussions for which the GFA is known.
