Tombstone Pillow Movie, a film shot in Manila wins Best Short Drama in NYC

Tombstone Pillow, a short film project that was shot in the haphazard shanties of The Manila North Cemetery gets the attention of New York film critics.

Timeless Entertainment Inc. together with Dream Team Directors and writer Fraser Scott won the category for Best Short Drama at the ICP Entertainment Short Film Series this 2019.

The film was directed by Dream Team Directors Bayou Bennett and Daniel Lir. The story was a collaboration between Fraser Scott, Daniel Lir and Bayou Bennett and script was written by Fraser Scott. Film was edited by Bella Jones. Executive Producer is Award winning author,musician and humanitarian Lourdes Duque Baron.

In 2007, the dynamic husband and wife filmmaker duo of Bayou Bennett and Daniel Lir founded Dream Team Directors. Their vision was to combine imagination, humor, beauty and a desire to positively impact the world through their stunning creative work.

The ICP Entertainment Short Film Series was founded in 2015, it describes itself as a preferred curated series that exhibits independent short films in the heart of midtown Manhattan, the melting pot of creative and artistic culture and diversity.

The film competition is already on its 5th year and has already attracted thousands of submissions from both local and international filmmakers, industry leaders and seasoned professionals. ICP Entertainment Short Film Series has 1 day screening of 7 short films in the following categories: Best Documentary, Comedy, Drama, Web Series, Music Video and Horror Film.

ICP Entertainment Short Film series is known for inviting celebrity international judges. This 2019, the competition enjoins the help of Hollywood and International Indian actor Roger Narayan who works in Indian films in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Sanskrit. Roger has already competed in various Feature Film projects in Hollywood and in India and is also known for his work in TV Series ” How I Met Your Mother”,” Eat Pray Love”and The Jay Leno Show”, and along with other guest celebrity judges in Hollywood.

The short advocacy film was shot on top of graves and mausoleums, together with a generation of poor families who have been living there since the 50’s.

According to Bayou Bennett of Dream Team Directors all of the proceeds of the film festival that they won for ” Tombstone Pillow”, will go to the homeless. Tombstone Pillow Director of Photography is Mycko David who made the Oscar entry for the Philippines last year and is being premiered at the Oscar and BAFTA qualifying. Mycko David is a cinematographer and Director of Photography known for movies like Birdshot, Eerie and Clarita, all top-grossing films in the Philippines in cooperation with Zither Phil Production headed by Pamela L. Reyes.
Pamela L. Reyes is an Award-Winning Filipino producer and director known for Unawa (2012), Debut (2011) and Birdshot (2016). Pamela started producing both short and full-length films including the critically acclaimed film “Birdshot”. “Birdshot” made its World Premiere at the prestigious 29th Tokyo International Film Festival where it won Best Film at the Asian Future Competition section. In October 2017, it was announced that “Birdshot” is the Philippines’ official entry to the 2018 Academy Awards. Currently, Pamela is producing multiple feature films with various directors.

Cast includes Lourdes Duque Baron, Kendra Sison De Mesa, Ian Taylor Ignacio, Tunisian actor Akram AL Hamandi Yesmine, Cedric Escobar and “The Young Great Profile” Blake Salcedo grandson of the legendary Leopoldo Salcedo.

Hagay Mizrahi of Gemini Muziq is a top music producer who has already worked with notable artists like Justin Bieber, Mario, Jason Derulo, Snoop Dogg and Christina Milan. He also did a music album collaboration with Lourdes Duque Baron.

The founder of New York City International Film Festival (NYCIFF) Mr. Roberto Rizzo, a professional film maker who started in 2010 openly expressed his admiration for the film Tombstone Pillow.

He congratulated the team responsible for creating Tombstone Pillow. In Rizzo’s words, he said:

Tombstone Pillow is also an official selection for the LA Shorts International Film Festival, an accredited partner by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

The film also made it as a finalist for the Around International Film Festival an independent gathering of Feature, Documentary, Short Films, Commercials, Music Video, Student Films, Series, New Media and Animations and alson an IMDb Award listing Qualifier.

The film was also able to get the attention of The Asian Cinematography AWARDS (ACA).

Asian Cinema Awards (ACA) will judge the film according to its technical elements, from the use of camera lens, film stock, lighting as well as other aesthetic concerns like the camera angle, framing, duration of the shot, distance as well as the movement. It will also look into the members of the film crew who were responsible for the cinematography, or the director of photography.

The Asia release of Tombstone Pillow will be in Manila, Philippines on February 22-23, 2020 at the UPFI Film Center.
